Icom CTCSS Tone Chart   Print this Page

If CTCSS / Private Line / Channel Guard is a new topic top you I suggest three articles on the Tech Info Index page at this web site:
1) A Historical and Technical Overview of Tone Squelch Systems — A primer on tone systems, with a little on digital systems.
2) CTCSS Doesn't Fix Anything! — Why PL, CG or CTCSS is NOT a cure for interference.
3) A Chart of CTCSS Tone Numbers — Tone numbers are useless!

Notes:
WB 1: On some tone charts the label "WB" is replaced with "SP".

Missing 2: The H16 and U16 were Icoms first microprocessor controlled radios with an integrated CTCSS encoder. The design has one flaw: they forgot the 97.4 Hz tone, and all tones above that frequency are moved down one number - i.e. tone 11 = 100 Hz, 12 = 103.5 Hz, etc all the way to tone 35 = 233.6 Hz.   These radios have two additional tones: 36 = 241.8 Hz ("M6") and 37 = 250.3 Hz ("M7").   Later radios added 97.4 Hz back into the tone list (this included the later production series 02 and 04 radios - they did 38 tones instead of 37).

241.83: Many earlier Icoms do not have 241.8 Hz, 250.3 Hz or 254.1 Hz.

0Z4: That's a zero, then the letter "Z".
