This Bulletin Number is PSB F-452 Memo To: PSB Mailing list From: Motorola Product Services Subject: Visar Radios and Speaker Microphone Desense Symptoms: Desense (squealing and/or screeching) will be heard on receiving radios, although the transmitting radio and remote speaker microphone is the source of the problem. This symptom will be intermittent as the radiošs remote speaker/microphone is moved around during normal operation. Radio grounding modification may be required, verify that the problem is only observed with remote speaker microphone use.This problem could affect all models and frequency bands. False low battery chirps may be heard with charged batteries on the 800 or 900 MHz models only. Cause: Insufficient ground contact with main shield inside radio. Radios Affected: All Visars manufactured through
September 1994, including serial numbers: Corrective Action: For customers receiving the Visar microphones , the insert below has been included. They are being notified to contact service shops to confirm manufacturing dates and schedule the upgrade using Grounding Kit REX4404A. Installation instructions are provided with each kit. IMPORTANT !! Use of this microphone with Visar radios manufactured prior to October 1994, may result in occasional desensing (squealing or screeching) in all receiving radios (any band) or false low battery chirps (800 & 900 MHz models only). If this is observed, please contact the nearest Motorola authorized service center to confirm manufacturing date and schedule an upgrade for the radios that this speaker/microphone will be used with. Request that grounding kit, REX4404A be installed per PSD F-452. Parts and level one repair is authorized by warranty for radios that meet the serial number criterion. Contact your local Service Representative to arrange for this modification. |
