Subject: High Torque Adjustment for Jedi Volume Control

Symptom: Customer Desires Volume Control With Higher Torque Adjust

Cause: Customer preferences and applications may result in the request for a volume knob that requires higher torque to adjust.

Corrective Action: The following procedure is recommended for customers who would like the volume knob on the Jedi series radios (HT1000, MT, MTS, and MTX) to be more difficult to turn.

Remove the existing volume knob (part number 3605253V01) by pulling it off of its shaft. A small screwdriver may be used to pry the knob loose. Be careful not to scratch the surrounding radio surface. Inspect the bottom surface of the knob. On recently manufactured radios (about November 1994 and beyond), the white inner section should have a small counterbore of material removed along the bottom surface. This counterbore is 7.8 mm in diameter and 2 mm deep.

For radios with the counterbored volume knob: Order part number 3205379W01, an o-ring, which can be inserted into this recess. The o-ring can be obtained by contacting the Americas Parts Division. When the knob/o-ring combination is reattached to the radio, the knob will be more difficult to turn. The o-ring will stay securely inside the knob recess once the knob is reattached to the radio.

For volume knobs which do not have the counterbore: Volume knob 3605253V01 should be ordered along with o-ring 3205379W01. This new volume knob will allow the o-ring to be properly assembled as described above. (Note: The part number of the volume control knob has not changed, the print has been upissued to reflect the new counterbored part)
