  Configuring an MTR3000 for
Analog Allstar Operation

I had a UHF Range 1 radio so programming to the amateur frequencies was no problem. I used MotoTurbo CPS Version 15.5.

Unlike the MSF5000 or MTR2000, the software is very simple with few options. The only things I needed to program were:

My cable to the Sound FOB used the following pins/signals on the J7 DB25 connector:

The MTR3000 can't drive a speaker directly so I added an audio amplifier to the rear of a standard Motorola mobile speaker. It uses a standard 4-wire RJ-22 plug (narrow RJ-11, like a handset cable). A standard Maxtrac / GM / Radius mobile mike worked fine as a local microphone although I didn't have the function buttons available on the GMN6147B service microphone. See the MTR2000's Modular Connectors article for more details on the speaker and microphone.

The photo below shows how I added a small audio amplifier onto the back of a standard Motorola loudspeaker. These can be purchased on popular auction sites for as little as $2US.

The Allstar Adapter:

The "sound card" (or sound FOB) I use is made by George WB3DZZ and can be found at technobygeorge.com. The ARA-1 Version 2 that I use has the additional audio amplifier chip to allow driving 600 ohm loads. There are also jumper blocks to allow for hardware USB inversion. See the photo below.

All of the Allstar info can be found at Hamvoip.org. Below is a screen shot of the Allstar main menu.
