We'd love to have some contributions to this page!
Maybe one on how to bump the channel count?
Maybe one on how to stretch a 146-174 MHz down to 144 MHz?   Or a 450-470 MHz down to 440 MHz?

To the best of our knowledge the Jedi series includes the GP900, HT1000, JT1000, HT1100, GP1200, MT2000, Visar, MT2100, MTS-LS / MTX2000, MTX838, MTX8000, MTX9000, MTS2000, MTS2010, MTS2013, PTX1200, PTX3600 and the MCS2000 Mobile.
Corrections and additions are welcome.

A note on Jedi model numbers:
The letter in position 4 is the frequency range: J=136-162, K=146-174, M=190-235, Q=403-437, R=403-470, S=450-520, W=896-941 MHz.
The letter in position 6 indicates whether the radio has a keypad: D=no keypad, H=keypad.
The digit in position 10 indicates the number of channels: 1=2 channels, 3=16 channels, 4=48 channels, 7=160 channels. There is an option that will do 255 channels.

BTW, the plastic piece in the Jedi handheld belt clip is hard to break but can be done. If you want to save a few dollars on the repair you can order just the plastic - it is part number 4205524W04.

Programming and the Radio Service Software:

The DB-9 programming cable for the Jedi series (and also the XTS3000) is Motorola part number RKN4035. It is available from ebay seller "BlueMax49ers".

You'll need a MSDOS / Windows 95 / 98 machine to run Jedi RSS. It's a known fact that that Jedi RSS does not run on Windows Vista or 2000 / XP.

The last conventional (non-trunking) version that I know of is Release R03.03.00-RVN 4098H:
This was in the README file:

The HT/JT1000/VISAR Conventional RSS has been up-issued to add additional features and to correct some problems in the previous version.

New features supported in this release:

1. The DTMF keypad on HT1000 radios can now be enabled and disabled by the RSS. Once enabled, the user has access to all DTMF related fields in the RSS. This feature has no effect on radios without a keypad.

2. The Hot Keypad feature on an HT1000 radio can now be enabled and disabled by the RSS. This feature has no effect on radios without a keypad.

3. The user can now specify an alternate synthesizer reference frequency, and specify which channels will use it. This feature can be used to eliminate certain crosstalk problems. It is only available on HT1000 and Visar radios with firmware version 4.04 or later.

The RSS problems which have been resolved in this release are:

1. All dates are now displayed with a four digit year.

2. The Auto Reset Timer range was incorrectly stated as 0 to 34 seconds. The RSS would accept the maximum value of 34 seconds, but would convert it to 0 on screen exit. The range is now 0 to 33 seconds, which is within the radio's capability.

3. The help text for the DTMF Hangtime field was updated to specify that this field has no effect on JT1000 radios.

4. The Side Button and Option Mate Configuration help screens were updated. All references to HT1000 "B" models were changed to include HT1000 "B" or later models.

5. In Visar radios, if the flip/lock feature was programmed for flip while the channel selector was locked, the radio would stay locked with no way to unlock it. Now, whenever the flip/lock feature is programmed for flip, the channel selector is automatically unlocked.

6. A warning message is now generated if the user attempts to select Mandown Pre-Alert while Silent Emergency is enabled. These two features are mutually exclusive.
The previous version, RVN4098G, Release R03.02.01 had this in the README file:
(this version) supports 12.5 kHz bandwidthin UHF and VHF, and these models:

H01KDC9AA1DN - HT1000, 2 Channel, VHF, With or w/o keypad (Option).
H01KDC9AA3DN - HT1000, 16 Channel, VHF, With or w/o keypad (Option).
H01RDC9AA1DN - HT1000, 2 Channel, UHF Range 1, With or w/o keypad (Option).
H01RDC9AA3DN - HT1000, 16 Channel, UHF Range 1, With or w/o keypad (Option).
H01SDC9AA1DN - HT1000, 2 Channel, UHF Range 2, With or w/o keypad (Option).
H01SDC9AA3DN - HT1000, 16 Channel, UHF Range 2, With or w/o keypad (Option).
H01UCC6AA3DN - HT1000, 16 Channel, 800 MHz, With or w/o keypad (Option).
H05KDD9AA4DN - VISAR, 16 Channel, VHF, No Keypad.
H05KDH9AA7DN - VISAR, 16 Channel, VHF, Keypad.
H05RDD9AA4DN - VISAR, 16 Channel, UHF Range 1, No Keypad.
H05RDH9AA7DN - VISAR, 16 Channel, UHF Range 1, Keypad.
H05SDD9AA4DN - VISAR, 16 Channel, UHF Range 2, No Keypad.
H05SDH9AA7DN - VISAR, 16 Channel, UHF Range 2, Keypad.
H05UCD6AA4DN - VISAR, 16 Channel, 800MHz Range, display.
H05UCH6AA7DN - VISAR, 16 Channel, 800MHz Range, Keypad, Display.

The MT2000 and MTS2000 are programmed by MTSX RSS. I believe that R06.08 was the last release.

We'd love to have a PDF of the RSS manual for the HT1000, or the option of borrowing someone's paper manual for scanning the relevant sections.
