Tools and Equipment (hand tools, power tools, soldering tools, etc.)
TechSpray Corp.   These folks make a wide variety of soldering/desoldering tools, including replacement tips for Ungar, Weller and Pace - and the variety and selection of tips is much wider than the original manufacturers. They sell through distributors, and Mouser is one of them.
PACE Soldering / Desoldering Tools   PACE is the "Rolls Royce" of production hand soldering/desoldering systems. If you do any PC board repair and can find a used one at a good price (they are expensive) you will soon find one of these invaluable. They sell through distributors and there is a "Reps and Distributors" menu item on their web site.
PROM / EPROM / EEPROM Programmers   Occasionally you need to be able to read, program, or copy PROMs/EPROMs/EEPROMs. Or to copy from one to another. I've had one of these units since the early 1980s and I can't say enough good things about this company. The hardware just plain works! The company updates the software on a regular basis. Their programmer unit comes in both parallel port and USB versions and has adapters for oddball chips like 32 byte x 8bit prom chips, PICs, AVRs, PLCCs, TSOPs, SOICs and they even offer gang programmers. If the current device looks familiar it is, Transtronics bought the old Intronics "Pocket programmer" product line after Intronics folded. Definitely recommended.
EPROM emulator   This gadget sure beats the program / test / erase / (repeat forever) cycle that is so common in firmware development. You plug this into the printer port of your computer and it can change the "PROM" contents on the fly. Definitely recommended.
Craftsman   Formerly the in-house Sears brand that used to have a lifetime warranty on hand (i.e. non-power) tools. They went to chinese manufacture and now are on the status with Harbor Freight (which has more stores). I buy the Snap-On tools for the tools that I'll use daily, the Harbor Freight "Icon" brand for the tools I'll use once in a while.
Harbor Freight   A source of imported (moderate quality) tools. Good for "disposable" tools like hacksaw blades, Dremel saws, "simple" tools like a bench vise, linemans pliers, or rarely used tools (like an adjustable wrench with 4 inch wide jaws), etc. They have a store locator on their web site with locations in all 50 states.
The "Icon" brand hand tools has a lifetime warranty, everything else has a limited time warranty.

Xcelite™ tools by Apex Hand Tools   The "Type 99" kit is very handy in your traveling toolbox. My field toolbox has three Type 99 handles and a collection of blades and extensions in a canvas roll-up.
Jensen Tools   Jensen Tools was bought by Stanley. Jensen is a suplier of field service tool kits and frequently is the only source of some interesting devices. They have a print catalog that they send out on request - worth getting.
Specialized Products Company   Another suplier of field service tool kits and field installer tool kits. They have fiber optic cable and telecom tools. They have a print catalog that they send out on request - worth getting.
Techni-Tool   Another specialty tool supplier, also with a print catalog that they send out on request - worth getting.
Grainger Corp.   Industrial supplier, some stores will only sell to businesses. They have a store locator on their web site. This is the only place I've found differential thermostats or humidistats. They have a print catalog that they send out on request (but with the cost of postage it takes some convincing) - worth getting.
McMaster-Carr Corp.   Another industrial supplier, this one with a better web site, and they ship from stocking warehouses. They have a free catalog that's several inches thick that they send out on request (but with the cost of postage it takes some convincing) - worth getting. They have will call counters in only a few places including Atlanta, Chicago, Cleveland, Los Angeles, and Princeton (New Jersey).
Alltronics Corp.   Located in Morgan Hill (San Franciso Bay area) this is a very nice surplus outlet. Their web site is worth exploring for good deals on power supplies, etc. Phone 408-778-3868
All Electronics Corp.   Located in Van Nuys (Los Angeles area) this is a very nice surplus outlet. Their web site is worth exploring for good deals on components, fans, voltmeters, ammeters, power supplies, etc. Phone 888-826-5432
All Electronics closed their doors in September 2023 after nearly 50 years in the surplus business.
